Waterfalls near Ranchi

Hundru Falls: It is one of the most picturesque falls located 45 kms from Ranchi on Ranchi-Purulia Road. Here, the Subarnarekha river falls from a height of 320 feet. It is one of the most famous picnic spots near Ranchi. At the base of the falls the water is placid, gathering in a pool where the visitors take a rejuvenating dip. It is also popular as a trekking destination admired by the adventure lovers.
Dassam Falls: This place is located about 34 kms from Ranchi on Ranchi-Tata Road near a village called Taimara. It is also known as Dassam Gagh. Here, the Kachni River falls from an altitude of 144 feet & makes a beautiful site. The time between February and April is considered as an ideal period to visit the place.
Jonha Falls: It is around 40 Kms from Ranchi & is named after the nearest village, Jonha. Also known as Gautam Dhara it is believed that once Lord Buddha took bath at this famous fall. A temple and ashram dedicated to Buddha was built atop Gautam Pahar by the sons of Raja Baldevdas Birla. The fall can be admired by descending around 500 steps. The river Kanchi flows nearby to the place, making it a place worth-visiting.
Hirni Falls: Located about 80 kms from Ranchi in the southern direction is another fascinating waterfall- Hirni. To the left from the car park, a walkway takes you to the other side of the river to a tourist hut whereas steps to the right lead up to the top of the hill. From an observation tower at the top you can see the mighty fall and the jungles that lie beyond. A little further up there's a bridge spanning the river and a shed.
Sita Falls: This is situated adjacent to the Jonha falls, a beautiful place amidst natural surroundings. The best time to visit is early in the morning.
Famous Religious Places to Visit
Jagannathpur Temple & Hill: A beautiful temple resembling in
architectural style of Puri temple is located 10 kms
from Ranchi town. This famous temple in Ranchi is known as Jagannathpur templeand was built in 1691 by Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo of Barkagarh Jagannathpur. A Rath yatra similar to Puri Rath yatra is held every year in the months of June/July.

Sun Temple: One of the most famous temples of Ranchi is situated at a distance of 40 kms on Ranchi-Tata Road near Bundu. The temple is built in the form of a Chariot with 18 wheels, 9 on each side, drawn by 7 white horses. It is surrounded by a pond which is used by devotees during Chhath Puja for worshipping of Sun. A dharmashala, for the pilgrims and the tourists is being built.
Angrabari (Amreshwar Dham): Angrabari almost 40 kms from Ranchi near Khunti was renamed Amreshwar Dham the Shankracharya Swami Swarupanand Saraswati. He while on his vist to this famous temple got impresseed by the serene and celestial beauty of the pace and renamed it Amreshwar Dham. The place about 40 kms from Ranchi near Khunti houses beautiful temples dedicated to Lord Shiva, Ram and Sita, Hanuman and Ganesh.
Devri Temple: The famous temple of Solha Bhuji Goddess Durga, being located on Ranchi-Tata is highway about 60 kms from Ranchi. The temple gives the lesson of harmony and brotherhood as it is only temple in Jharkhand where Pahans (tribal priests) along with conventional Brahmins performs daily the religious rituals.
GEL Church: Gossner Evangelical Lutheran Church in Chotanagpur, Assam in short G.E.L. Church was built by four German Missionaries named Emil Schatz, Fredrik Batsch, Augustus Brandt and E. Theodor Janke sent by Fr. Johaness Evangelista Gossner of Berlin. G.E.L. Church was inaugurated on 2nd November 1845 with church service.
Other Famous Tourist Places to Visit

Tagore Hill: The Morhabadi Hill famous also known as Tagore Hill due to its association with Tagore family is also an important tourist spot. This place in Ranchi served as an abode for Jyotirindranath Tagore, elder brother of Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. The credit of building a house (Shantidham) on the hill goes to Jyotirindranath Tagore . Here a Rath yatra similar to Puri is held every year .
Nakshatra Van: It is situated in the heart of the City, close to the Governor House. Constructed in the year 2003 by State Government, it is a man-made forest. The Project is designed in such a way in which 27 trees have been planted according to the 27 planets of Astrology Science. The tree that represents the particular nakshatras in the zodiac have been planted in each of the corresponding arcs. There are children's parks, artificial hillocks, waterfalls, gardens and a musical fountain, besides a garden containing over 40 species of medicinal plants.
Muta Crocodile Breeding Centre: The famous breeding centre on Ranchi Ramgarh Road near Ormanjhi is home to around 50 crocodiles.
Birsa Jaivik Udyan: this is situated at a distance of 16 kms from Ranchi at Ranchi-Ramgarh Road, situated at Chakla in Ormanjhi block of Ranchi. Many species of animals, trees and plants can be found here. Many species of animals, trees and plants can be seen here. The collection of mammalian faunas is the main attraction here making it a favourite tourist spot.
Sidhu Kanhu Park: This Park was developed in the memory of freedom fighters -“Sidhu” and “Kanhu”. It is situated near Morhabadi & people flock here from near & far.Tribal Research Institute and Museum is located near to the park & exhibits the tribal culture of Chotanagpur plateau.
McCluskigunj: It is famous for European style bungalows and a tribal museum. The place was established as an conceived and created by E T McCluskie in 1934. It has an old world charm associated with it and people who love spending a day or two far from madding crowd come here to stay in any one of the sprawling bungalows.
War Cemetery: Located on the Ranchi-Hazaribagh road, it is the smallest 'concentration' cemetery in India with a total of 708 burials that includes soldiers of the army of undivided India. The graves are well classified and have beautiful words written in memory of the dead soldiers. One can find the poignant epitaphs written on the graves like "May some gentle hand in the far off land lay down a flower for us….."

Birsa Munda Airport is a landing airstrip which connects the place with almost all the major cities of the country through air. Ranchi is now well connected with major cities of India via rail routes, Ranchi Railway Station with station code RNC is main station of Ranchi.
