Museums are places where old, antique or excavated items are kept. They serve educational purpose as well as take us down memory lane enlightening us about scientific developments or cultural traditions of the past. Museums in Ranchi are regularly visited by students and tourists.
Ranchi Musuem was established in 1974. This museum houses sculptures carved out of stone, beautiful terracotta, ethnological objects etc. Guide services help visitors to gain better knowledge about the place and displayed items. Earlier, it was functioning from the premises of Tribal Research Institute at Morabadi.
The State Museum in Hotwar today has well lighted galleries displaying historical and cultural heritage of Jharkhand. Potteries, other artifacts, paintings etc. are exhibited here. It was inaugurated in 2009 by Vice President Shri Mohammad Hamid Ansari. But now the State Museum has a 300 seated auditorium and well equipped library which consists of books on varied topics like culture, sculpture, architecture, archaeology etc.
Ranchi University Museum:
This museum is located in Ranchi University and is managed by anthropology department. It consists of ethnographic collections from Central Indian states and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
