About Ranchi

Ranchi is the capital of Jharkhand state which was carved out of state of Bihar on 15th November,2000.The name Ranchi has been derived from an Oraon village ‘Archi’ near the city. ‘Archi’ literally means ‘bamboo grove’.

Ranchi city is located at 230 21’ North and 850 20’  East towards the southern part of Chota Nagpur Plateau. It is also called as the ‘çity of waterfalls.’ The entire city is surrounded by dense green forests and friendly hills. The climate here is pleasant with temperature ranging from 200C to 420C during summer and 0oC to 25oCduring winter.                                                          

People residing here read Hindi, Bengali, English and Urdu newspapers which are published from Ranchi. Various newspapers like Dainik Jagran, Anand Bazar Patrika, Hindustan Times, Prabhat Khabar, The Times of India, Ranchi Express  and The Economic Times keep people well informed.

FM Radio Stations in Ranchi include Radio Mantra (91.9 FM), Big FM (92.7 FM), Radio Dhamaal (106.4FM), Radio Hariyali of Birsa Agricultural University (107.8).

RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical sciences) is a well known hospital of Ranchi. CIP (Central institute Of Psychiatry), RINPAS (Ranchi Institute of Neuro Psychiatry and Applied Sciences), UMA (Usha Martin Academy), NUSRL (National University of Study and Research in Law), IIM (Ranchi), BIT (Mesra), NIFFT (National Institute of Foundry and Forge Technology), XISS (Xavier Institute of Social Sciences), Birsa Agricultural University, IIFT (International Institute of Fashion Technology etc. are some of the premier institutes in Ranchi. Schools here impart quality education and comprise of Private as well as Government schools.

Pahari hill, Deer park, Birsa Jaivik Udyan, Fun Castle, Zakir Hussain Park, Sidhu Kanhu Park, Tagore Hill, Muta Crocodile Breeding Centre, Ranchi Lake, etc. are some places one should visit.

Angrabari(Amreshwar Dham), Devri Temple, Jagannathpur Temple (10 kms. from Ranchi),Sun temple are some religious places one should surely visit to witness devotion and prayers offered by people to deities here.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni who is the Captain of Indian cricket Team and Deepika Kumari (ace archer) hail from Ranchi. Jaipal Singh who was captain of Indian Hockey team at 1928 Olymics and Rajesh Chauhan (cricket) are former players who brought laurels to their  own city.

JSCA(Jharkhand State Cricket Association) International Cricket Stadium is located in Ranchi. The One Day international match between India and England was hosted in this stadium.A Tennis Academy is situated beside this stadium. The 34th National Games were held in Ranchi in February 2011.

Today, Ranchi has become an Industrial hub with many small and big industries giving employment opportunities to people living in and around Ranchi. Ranchi Municipal Corporation oversees sanitation, water, infrastructure and other basic facilities for the people living here.
