Hundru Falls

If you are planning a vacation in Ranchi, then you must visit Hundru Fall. It is one of the most picturesque falls in Ranchi & 34th highest waterfall in India. Here, the Subarnarekha river falls from a height of 320 feet. It is one of the most famous favorite picnic spot in Ranchi. At the base of the falls the water is placid, gathering in a pool where the visitors take a rejuvenating dip. It is also popular as a trekking destination admired by the adventure lovers.

How to Reach ?

The place is located 45 kilometres (28 mi) from Ranchi, off the Ranchi-Purulia Road( nearly 21 kilometres from the main road). Suvarna Rekha Hydal Project located at the base of the falls is also a good place for Tourists to explore & enjoy.

Jonha Falls

It is also known as Gautam Dhara as Lord Buddha is believed to have bathed here. A temple and ashram dedicated to Buddha was built atop Gautam Pahar. The fall can be admired by descending around 500 steps. The river Kanchi flows nearby to the place, making it a place worth-visiting. Situated at an edge of the Ranchi plateau, the Jonha Falls is an example of a hanging valley falls. Water in the falls drops from a height of 43 metre. Every Tuesday and Saturday a fair is organized in Jonha.

How to Reach ?

Jonha Falls is located at a distance of 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Ranchi. It is easily approachable by both road and train. Jonha railway station is nearly 1.5 kms from the fall. If traveling by road, you have to take the Ranchi-Purulia Road and after traveling for about 20 miles (32 km) one has to travel about 3 miles (4.8 km) off the main road.

Dassam Falls

This place is located on Ranchi-Tata Road near a village called Taimara. Dassam means ten, ten streams of water can be seen falling, hence, this name is given. The Mundari language is spoken in the area. The Kachni River falls from an altitude of 144 feet & makes a beautiful site. The time between February and April is considered as an ideal period to visit the place. The water of the Dassam Falls is very clean and clear, scenery around the falls is very much beautiful. Tourists visiting the Dasham falls get fascinated after viewing the scenery and glory of the place.

How to Reach ?

Dassam fall is situated about 40 km from Ranchi off the Ranchi-Tata highway. From NH-33 one can take a right turn for Taimara. After crossing Taimara 3 kms ahead there's a diversion from where a left takes you to Dassam and the right to Khunti.

Panch-Ghagh Falls

Panch-ghagh is the name for a group of five waterfalls. The falls are result of the breaking up of the Banai river. Cemented walkways connect the different cataracts, stream 2 is the most popular while stream 5 is the biggest. One can walk down from the tourist shelter to the base of stream. There is a forest patch with a clearing that's a very popular place for picnics & outings. The place attracts many tourists visiting Ranchi due to its natural beauty, pristine surroundings, serene & calm atmosphere.

How to Reach ?

Panch-Ghagh falls is situated at about 55 kilometres (34 mi) from Ranchi. About an hour's drive from Ranchi, the falls will be on your way Simdega (via Khunti) from main Ranchi city. There is a car parking facility available at these falls.

Hirni Fall

The Hirni Halls has been developed by the water cascading down from a height of the Ramgarha river. A walkway to the left takes you to a tourist hut located at the other side of the river whereas steps to the right take you to the top of the hill. From an observation tower at the top of the hill the mighty fall and the dense forests below can be seen. Further up there's a bridge connecting the river and a shed. Presently a tourist complex with a restaurant and lodging facility is under construction at the site, to enhance the experience of the tourists.

How to Reach ?

Hirni Falls is situated at a distance of 20 kilometres (12 mi) from Khunti, 70 kilometres (43 mi) from Ranchi and 68 kilometres (42 mi) from Chaibasa, off the Ranchi-Chaibasa Road. From Ranchi, you head south on the road to Chaibasa, drive past Khunti and Murhu, turn right from Panchghagh mod and drive 11/2 km to the car park.

Sun Temple, Ranchi

The historical Sun temple in Ranchi is constructed in the architectural form of a chariot with 18 wheels driven by seven horses. The temple is surrounded by a lush green lawn. The landscape is very charming and serene. There is a sacred pond with clean water, where many devotees take a dip, with a belief that the dip in this holy pond to gain God’s blessings & wash their sins.The temple is a nice tourist destination for devotees as well as regular tourists. The temple is most crowded during the Chatt Puja when devotees come here to take bath in the pond and take the blessings of Sun god. It is a beautiful & sacred place to visit.

Jagannath Temple, Ranchi

The credit for the construction of this 17th century temple goes to Thakur Ani Nath Shahdeo, King of Barkagarh, Jagannathpur. The architectural style of this temple is like a miniature of the famous Puri Jagannath temple. An annual Ratha Yatra is held here which attracts thousands of devotees from neighbouring villages and towns. Jagannath temple has been built on a hill top. To reach the top visitors can either climb the stairs or take the vehicle route. The view of the city from the top of the hill is breath-taking. The sanctity and solitude of the place attracts many tourists. It depicts the socio-cultural landscape and life, as it exists in Ranchi.

How to Reach ?

It is situated at 10 kms from the Ranchi city, on a hill top near Firayalal Chowk. A right turn just before the Jagannath temple can also take you to Shirdi Sai temple, which is also a place worth-visiting.

Rock Garden, Ranchi

How to Reach ?

Situated at a distance of about 4 km from Ranchi town on Ranchi-Kanke Road this popular garden can be reached via all major modes of local transport. A visit to this garden can be combined with a trip to Kanke Dam, located nearby.


Nakshatra Van

The Nakshatra Van or the Constellation Garden is a park developed by the Jharkhand Forest Department. It is based on the Philosophy of Hindu astrology, the center is a symbolic representation of various constellations, built according to the exact respective angles of the Zodiac. Trees representing a specific constellation are planted here. Apart from this, the park also has musical fountain, swings, and beautifully laid out gardens full of flowering shrubs and trees. A separate section for medicinal plants is also present with a statue of Dhanvantari or the god of Ayurvedic medicine.
