Famous Hill in Ranchi, Jharkhand

Tagore Hill:      


The history of this hill is associated with Tagore family, hence the name. Nobel Prize winner Rabindranath Tagore is believed to have written scores of books sitting here. This hill is around 300 ft. high. Ramkrishna Mission Ashram  is situated at the foot of this hill.

Ranchi Lake:

This lake is located at the base of Ranchi hill, which is about 2140 ft. above sea level. There is boating facility to add to the enjoyment of both young and old. There is a Shiva temple on the top of the hill. The city of Ranchi looks decked up with lights when seen from hilltop. Ranchi lake is located near Ranchi telephone exchange. This lake was excavated by British National Colonel Onsely.

Nakshatra Van:

Nakshatra Van was constructed in 2003 and is situated near Raj Bhavan. The 27 varieties of plants here actually denote 27 planets in astrology. The musical fountain fills the hearts of all the visitors with evergreen exuberance. The medicinal plants and other big trees  add to beauty of this beautiful garden.  

Gonda Hill and Rock Garden:

It is an amalgamation of artistic magnificence in natural surroundings. This tourist spot boasts of lovely waterfalls, perfect sculptures and gardens. A lot of visitors come and stroll here every day. 

Sidhu Kanhu Park:

This park was made in the loving memory of Sidhu and Kanhu : freedom fighters of Jharkhand whose contribution has been immense in the freedom movement. 
The park is located near Morhabadi. Many people visit here as it serves as a picnic spot for them.

Tribal Research Institute and Museum:

This museum houses sculptures, terracotta etc. which throw light on the culture and way of life of tribal people living in Chota nagpur area of Jharkhand. This museum educates  common man and also students of History and Anthropology about the history of around 32  plus tribes of Jharkhand state.

The constitutional safeguards for people belonging to the Scheduled Tribe communities is enshrined in Article 244 of the Constitution of India. The provisions and rules to ensure these safeguards have been elaborated in Schedule V of the Constitution.

Kanke Dam:

Kanke Dam is a serene and peaceful place. The sight of lovely green trees, hills and water  fill you with gratitude for the beauty and mystery of nature. As rock garden is located nearby, the trip becomes all the more complete and fruitful. Kanke dam is located at the foothills of Gonda hills.

Dhruva Dam:


There are a number of rivers in Ranchi and dams have been built over some of these rivers. The dams serve as good picnic spots with the sight of water flowing peacefully ad mist cool breeze. 

Rukka Dam Reservoir:

The cities nearby are Ramgarh, Kuju and Patratu. The sight of green trees, chirping birds, different shapes of large and small rocks is enticing. People even bathe in the river. The dam caters to the water requirements of  people of Ranchi and also those living in neighbouring areas.


Dr. Zakir Hussain Park:

Dr. Zakhir Hussain was the 3rd President of India. This park is named in his honour. It is an ideal location for regular morning walkers, fitness conscious or even peace loving individuals. The maintenance is carried out by Ranchi Municipal Corporation. There are swings for children and the lovely green shrubs and plants along with plethora of colourful flowers add to the beauty of this park. There is even provision for playing cricket, football and hockey here. That is why this park is thronged by people of all age groups who come here for walking, playing or just for enjoying the company of their family and friends.
