Ranchi city is located in the southern part of the Chota Nagpur plateau. It was formerly a part of Bihar State but became the capital of the new Jharkhand state, which was formed on 15 November 2000. Ranchi being an industrial town, offers many employment opportunities making it a densely populated city. According to the 2011 census, the city has an estimated population of 1,073,440. The city has a hilly topography surrounded by many waterfalls & green forests. The city is endowed with a natural beauty, rich history and traditional tribal culture.
Some of the major crops grown in Ranchi are rice, wheat, maize, barley and bajra (millet). Ranchi has become an important centre for trade & commerce due to presence of many MNCs, Public Limited Companies & industries in the city. Mineral resources like Coal, Lime Stone, Fireclay, China Clay, Granite, Stone and Sand are found in Ranchi.The large & green forest area surrounding Ranchi provides many basic raw materials to a large number of industries like construction, furniture, match box, paper, rayon, railway slippers, wooden poles, etc. The potential of Ranchi as a growing city has been recognized by businesses and government alike, with Ranchi receiving significant investments to boost its economy & development.
Administratively Ranchi, the capital city of Jharkhand is divided into two sub-divisions called Ranchi and Bundu. Each sub-division is then further divided into blocks, panchayats and villages totalling to nearly 18 blocks and 303 panchayats There are 14 development blocks in Ranchi sub-division, which are Kanke, Ratu, Chanho, Mandar,Lapung, Burmu, Bero, Namkum, Omarjhi, Angara, Silli, Khelari,Nagri and Itki. Governor of Jharkhand
The present Governor of Jharkhand , Smt. Droupadi Murmu, is the first woman to hold this office. She took the charge of Governor on May 18, 2015. As a governor she is the executive head of the State and discharges duty with the help of his officers as per the Constitution of India. The Governor of Jharkhand also has a special responsibility to look after the administration of Scheduled Areas as mentioned in the Fifth Schedule of the Constitution. Smt. Murmu hails from Odisha and has wide administrative experience in governance.

of the country. Shri Raghubar Das belonging to Bhartiya Janta Party
(BJP) is the present chief minister of Jharkhand, who was sworn-in on as
the 6th chief minister of Jharkhand state on 28 December 2014. He
served as the member of legislative assembly for five times,
representing Jamshedpur East since 1995. He also served as the Deputy
Chief Minister and the Urban Development Minister during the BJP-led
government in the state.

Judiciary in Ranchi
Civil Courts, Ranchi comes under the Jurisdiction of Jharkhand High Court w.e.f. 15 November, 2000. It has 52 Courts under it including Adln Munsif Court, JM Court, JC Court, Family Court, MVAct Court, AJC Court, Sub Judge Court, CJM Court, SDJM Court, Munsif, etc. Civil Courts, Ranchi was constructed in the year 1952. It consists of five sub-buildings as Centralised Filing System Building, Main Judicial Commissioner Building, CBI Fodder Scam Building, Fast Track Court Building and Magistrate Building. Modern facilities like Video- Conferencing Studio and Computer Labs are now present in the court premises.
Hon'ble Justice R. Banumathi is presently the Chief Justice of the Jharkhand High Court, Ranchi. She has previously practised on Civil and Criminal sides in Tirupattur and District Court, Krishnagiri, Harur and Moffusil courts and is presently heading various Committees in the state. She has also written a Hand Book of Civil and Criminal Courts Management and use of Computers.

Ranchi Municipal Corporation or RMC is constantly striving to deliver best services to the people of the city. It came into existence on 15th September 1979 through a Government Notification (No. 1406).
The corporation was formed by merging of former Ranchi & Doranda Municipalities and Ranchi Doranda Joint Water Board. Presently, Ranchi Corporation has jurisdiction over an area of 175.12 sq. km. with 55 administrative wards. RMC administers the region under the Ranchi Municipal Corporation Act, 2001. The major responsibilities of RMC as per Section 63 and 63 A of the RMC Act, 2001 are:
