High Court of Jharkhand in Ranchi

The Jharkhand High Court  came into existence with the formation of Jharkhand State on 15 Nov, 2000. Jharkhand was carved out of Bihar state on this day.
 
Jharkhand High Court is in the capital city of Ranchi. The territorial jurisdiction of Jharkhand High Court  extends to entire state of Jharkhand. The decisions of the High Court can be appealed to the Supreme Court of India in New Delhi.

Jharkhand High Court has 52 courts which include other courts like Family court, AJC Court, CJM Court, SDJM Court etc. In India, there are 21 High Courts and their Benches. High Courts have been constituted under Part-VI, Chap.V, Article 214 of the Constitution of India.

The Judges in High Court are appointed by President of India in consultation with Chief Justice of India and the Governor of the state. All High Courts are headed by Chief Justice. The oldest High Court in India is the Calcutta High Court which was established in 1862.

Jharkhand High Court was established under Bihar Reorganization Act,2000.The sanctioned strength of judges of Jharkhand High Court is 20.The term of service of Judges in High Court is 62 years.
